James is the driver behind getting the team in tip top shape in the off season and maintaining it during the racing season. He has a background in sports science and believes that overall strength is the key to being a better all-round athlete. Together with Gene, James runs our Sunday morning circuit classes incorporating triathlon specific strength exercises and cardio. These sessions are hardcore but also heaps of fun. James often receives text messages on a Monday morning from athletes bemoaning sore muscles and calling him some not very nice names (although secretly they love it and are focussed on the end result).

James was a pretty handy diver when he was a kid, starting at 8 years old and gaining medals at county, national and European level (representing England) over his 9 years of competing. He moved to New Zealand in 2002 to take up a coaching positon at the Wellington Dive Club. His coaching accolades include head coach for Diving NZ Elite Squad, coach for Australian Junior Elite Championships, and twice named Diving NZ Coach of the Year. James is currently head coach at the Wellington Dive Club with successes at local, national and international level.

Coached by Gene, James has completed the odd triathlon after being talked into it by his mates but his preference is mountain biking, taking part in various mountain biking events includng Xterra rotorua.
