The sport of basketball is provided leadership and direction from an independent Board of Directors who are either elected by the Constituent Association Members or appointed by the Board after a Skills Matrix is completed to determine required specialised areas.

The BTAS Board sets the strategic direction of the organisation with management and staff carrying out the operational requirements of this direction.
\n\n\n\n
Under the leadership of the Chair and the CEO, the Board is to be proactive in implementing BTAS’ objects having regard to the requirements outlined in the Constitution and powers vested in the Board to determine and articulate BTAS’ values, vision and strategic direction.
\n\n\n\n
BTAS' Directors are expected to:
\n\nMeet fiduciary responsibilities as required under all relevant commonwealth and state legislation and under common law
\n\tComply with BTAS' constitution, rules, regulations and policies
\n\tAct within their duty of care to make decisions in the best interests of BTAS
\n\tAvoid conflict of interest
\n\tDevelop strategic planning and direction of BTAS including approving the business plan and budget, monitoring organisational performance and evaluating strategic results, and approving expenditure outside the approved budget and delegations.
\n\tDevelop and implement policies
\n\tInteract with key stakeholders and members to inform them of achievements and to ensure that they have input into determination of strategic goals and direction
\n\tReport back to the stakeholders at relevant forums through the Chairman and the CEO
\n\tMonitor the CEO and organisational compliance with the relevant commonwealth and state legislation and with BTAS’ own policies
\n\tMaintain the confidentiality of information they receive by virtue of being a Director of BTAS
\n\tEvaluate their collective effectiveness as a Board
\n\tNot improperly use his/her position or misuse information of BTAS
\n\tCommit the time necessary to discharge effectively his/her role as a Director
\n\tUnderstand the complexities of the sectors in which BTAS operates together with those sectors' structure, operations, controls, regulatory obligations, current technology, types of transactions and political/economic environment in order to adequately assess the risks faced by BTAS.
