Why Websites Need to Migrate from HTTP to HTTPS and How to Do It

Sad to say, this has already begun at the start of July. We’ve seen this change on websites wherein you’ll be greeted with this warning.
\n\nIf you haven’t migrated from http to https just yet, but plans to, here are the steps on how to do it.

Security Certificate and Installation

\n\nGetting a security certificate and installing it on your server differs from where you are hosted. The best thing to do, if you aren’t familiar with this is to contact a technical support and have them install this on your server.

\n\nMixed Content
\n\n
\n\nOnce an SSL certificate has been installed on your website, what you need to do next If is to check if there are mixed content issues on your website. From our experience, you’ll be able to identify this when you see this symbol in the URL address field.

If you find this symbol on your website address, all you need to do is to update your internal resources to HTTPS. Just do a find and replace database query and it’s done!

\n\nRedirects
\n\n
\n\nFor SEO’s, this should be on top of their priorities before the migration. Negligence to redirect will cause to lose external links that has already been acquired. It is important to do an audit of all the pages and links inside your website and to make 301 redirects on each of them.

\n\nSome CMS’s such as Wordpress will be able to handle this for you, otherwise, all you need to do is to update your .htaccess file.
