\n\nHe raised a total of $300,000 for Parkinson's and has been a huge resource to me in the process. His optimism drives my passion and hopes to complete the trail. I encourage you to check out his story, it was a pretty awesome cause. Due to a snow storm in the Sierra Nevadas, his record attempt was nulled, although he finished with a total of 2,253 miles in 61 days. Sam now works as a special events coordinator for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Scott Williamson
\n\nA guru of the PCT trail, Scott has thru hiked the PCT 13 times. He was the first person to have yo-yo'd (hike both ways in one trip) the PCT in 2004, and has set the PCT speed record multiple times. His most recent record was set in 2011, where he finished the trek in 64 days, 11 hours and 19 minutes. An expert of ultralight packs, here is an article of his 2004 trip.

Josh Garrett and Heather Anderson
\n\nAn avid animal-welfare activist, Josh beat the old PCT record by about five days. He hiked the PCT in 59 days, 8 hours, and 14 minutes in 2013. A vegan for two years, Josh showed that his dieting does not prohibit his ability for ultra endurance. John dedicated his hike against cruel and inhuman treatment of animals. Heather completed her trek in about 61 days and 17 hours in 2013. Her ability to solo hike the PCT at such a brisk pace speaks to the power of the female spirit. Soloing the PCT is a very different (and more challenging) beast, and I commend her highly for it. Check out an article by The Seattle Times.

• Forrester Pass poses the highest point on the trail at 13,153 ft (4,009 m).

• This winter has been one of the driest in California's history. It will have record low snow packs, which will have a huge impact on water resources.

• Due to hot weather conditions, there were a few wildfires. Luckily, String Bean was not forced to evacuate the trail!

Joe completed an \"assisted\" attempt; a small support crew tracked Joe through forest roads to restock his supplies and track his progress. They met every 10-80 miles, overcoming extreme logistical challenges (hiking 10 miles on unmarked trails, crossing rivers, popping car tires) to make this hike a reality. This summer, Run For Colin will be releasing a documentary of the journey.
