Members of the Hobart Dog Walking Association enjoy social walks in New Norfolk particularly in autumn when the poplar leaves are changing colour. Here are our favourite New Norfolk walks.

Drive to New Norfolk and park in Tynwald Park, off the Lyell Highway.
\n\nThese walks start at the bottom of Tynwald Park near the River Derwent footbridge. Tynwald Park is off-lead.

Follow the Lachlan River by walking in the direction of the New Norfolk township.
\n\nThe track goes over a footbridge near the Lyell Highway, then walk under the Lyell Highway bridge that crosses the Lachlan River and keep walking. Be aware there are sheep in a paddock about 100 metres up the track.
\n\n\n\n
The track will reach The Avenue (so put dogs on-lead to cross), then continue walking the next section of the Lachlan River until reach the end of the track at Humphrey Street.

Turn right into Humphrey Street which leads to the New Norfolk town centre.
\n\n\n\n
We recommend going to Patchworks Cafe, in Willow Court, for a coffee. Patchworks allows dogs outside and has many outdoor tables and chairs. The coffee and food at Patchworks is very good and dogs are often given a treat.

Return via the Avenue and Lachlan River Track.
\n\nOff-lead with on-lead in the town

Park at the bottom of Tynwald Park and walk over the footbridge.
\n\n\n\n
Follow the track alongside the Derwent River, which will eventually go up a hill. At the top of the hill take the cement stairs on the right down to the Esplanade. Walk past the caravan park. The grass area at the Esplanade is designated off-lead. Please be aware of the ducks.

At the end of the Esplanade park (near the Lyell Highway Bridge) walk up into the New Norfolk town centre, consider going via the war memorial.

Return via the Avenue to join the Lachlan River Track which leads to Tynwald Park.
