The Hobart Dog Walking Association (HDWA) promotes the importance of dog on-lead and off-lead exercise areas for the benefits of dog and human physical health and socialisation.
\n\n\n\n
The main aims of our association are to lobby for retention and enhancement of suitable dog walking areas, both on and off lead, in Hobart, Clarence and Glenorchy, and to enhance the image of well controlled dogs as a benefit to our community.

Councils decide when and where you can exercise your dog and formulate dog management plans every five years as a required by the State Government’s Dog Control Act.
\n\n\n\n
Organisations such as Councils often find it easier to liaise with an organised group rather than “every man and his dog”.
\n\n\n\n
It's also easier for dog walkers to spread information via a formal organised group rather than try and reach "every man and his dog".
\n\n

\n\nIt's a great way to meet other dog walkers, enjoy social walks and discover places to walk your dog.
\n\n
\n\nIt's also a good way to share information about dog walking areas, keep informed and consider actions to take when dog walking areas are under threaten in your area.

The HDWA Inc was established on 31 May 2006 in order to have an organised and active group to promote and protect dog exercise areas. Since forming the HDWA has successfully campaigned to:
\n\nStop the dog exercise area at Cornelian Bay becoming drastically reduced
\n\tStop the proposed ban of dogs on Bellerive Beach in 2007. In 2015, the HDWA again lobbied to keep the status quo on Bellerive Beach. Sadly, the Clarence City Council decided to ban dogs from what was the on-lead section from 2008, and Apex Park.
\n\tStop a section of Chapel Street Reserve, in Glenorchy, from being given away. Like many in the community we did not want public open space given away for the exclusive use of one group to build a temple
\n\tStop the proposed ban of on-lead dogs on Nutgrove Beach, in Sandy Bay

Behind the scenes we regularly liaise with Councils and strive to build positive and relationships with Councils. Two-way communication and consultation is vital.

Every year we support Council dog events by participating in events. We are delighted to be allocated a stall at:
\n\nDogs Day Out – organised by Clarence City Council
\n\tDogs on the Domain – organised by Hobart City Council

The Hobart Dog Walking Association is incorporated and holds committee meetings every few months. Meetings are open should you wish to bring a matter to our attention.
\n\n\n\n
Members will be advised of our meeting venue for 2019.
\n\n\n\n
The Hobart Dog Walking Association conducts several social walks per month. The walks are held in different locations so we get to know different walking areas for dogs – and because we like variety
\n\n
\n\nThe walks are easy to a medium standard as our members and dogs are of varied age.
\n\n\n\n

We welcome members interested in promoting the aims and objectives of responsible dog ownership and the importance of dog exercise areas.
\n\nOur members tend to live in the Hobart, Glenorchy and Clarence municipalities. However, we have had members for other areas (including Victoria)
