\n\nI received a lot of hands on experience during my internship with the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (MCCHR). My primary job was to help organize the resource center and to get it up and running. I had the opportunity to appear in court/client case meetings, prepared legal documents, newsletters, speeches and press-releases. I also organized and assisted in fundraising, event planning and social media outreach. I traveled to different parts of Malaysia with MCHHR and I felt as if I had truly experienced Malaysia.

Experience
\n\nI received a lot of hands on experience during my internship with the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (MCCHR). I am born and raised in New York City and you will find many opportunities there to do all kinds of internships, however, nothing compares to the experience I had with MCCHR. My primary job was to help organize the resource center and to get it up and running. Often times I would take such an interest in the books I was organizing that I found myself reading passages from the variety of books that MCCHR offered. I was blessed with the opportunity to appear in court/client case meetings, prepared legal documents, newsletters, speeches and press-releases. I organized and assisted in fundraising, event planning and social media outreach. One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had in my life was with MCCHR - I met with human rights lawyers from Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia. We shared stories and experiences. They told me about their home as I would tell them about mine. It seemed as if we came from such different worlds yet I found deep down we were so similar. We were also blessed to traveled to different parts of Malaysia. We experienced different cultures and traditions, we traveled to the court houses and saw some of the most rural, modern and urban areas in and outside Kuala Lumpur. I was able to see and understand how things really worked in Malaysia. However despite all these once in a life time experiences, my favorite part of the internship was getting to know the faces behind MCCHR. They are an incredible group of people that possess this amazing passion to really want to help - I took their passion and drive home with me to NYC.

\n\nDuring my internship at MCCHR I worked on the MyMP project (launch of the project and contact with MPs), assisted with research on freedom of thought, conscience and religion and other administrative tasks.

Experience
\n\nOverall I had a wonderful experience. The environment at office was great since everybody was kind and helpful and taught me a great deal about the malaysian culture and people. I also got a wider grasp of the situation of human rights in this country, and what human rights organizations such as MCCHR do on a day to day basis. Due to the work that was assigned to me, my research and drafting skills improved much.

Workscope
\n\nWorked as a summer legal intern on cases involving different human rights issues. Specifically, I researched and prepared for the appeal of the litigation of a landmark gender equality case; assisted MCCHR in the structuring and implementing the civic education program for indigenous youth; assisted in IdolaDemokrasi workshops; wrote and published case note regarding the Centre's test case of LGBT equal rights, which was featured in the New York LGBT Bar Association's publication.
\n\n\n\n
Experience
\n\nMCCHR provided a great learning and working environment for its interns. The environment of the Centre was laid back and projects were always collaborative. MCCHR provided training, meeting, and seminars for the interns to develop the necessary skills and knowledge. Many of the cases are intellectually stimulating and allows interns to critically analyze the legal principals and challenge preconceived notion. Members of the Centre saw the intern as part of the family, and supervisor would ensure that the internship experience was as fulfilling and rewarding as possible, so that intern could leverage the valuable experience and continued to grow and develop within their future endeavors, whether it is law, policy, or other professions. The works were very hands on and I was able to pick up many practical skills. I also dealt with projects/cases that were about the latest human rights issues faced by the everyday citizens, making the internship an especially rewarding experience.

They will also get to expand their circle of professional and personal network as they meet passionate people from diverse and interesting backgrounds.

Last but not least, they will be able to learn how to implement projects with limited funding; a skill any employer would appreciate.
