Melbourne’s Café Henkel is the first completely gluten free café to be accredited by Coeliac Australia. The Brunswick café is also the first gluten free business accredited by Coeliac Australia to join food delivery service UberEATS.

\nCafé Henkel has successfully met the stringent accreditation requirements that include an on-site audit, staff training and laboratory testing of menu items.
\n 
\nThe Brunswick café has developed a loyal following since it opened in May with regulars traveling from all over Victoria to enjoy the café’s tasty gluten free options.  
\n 
\nThe display cabinet is filled with mouth-watering cakes, pastries and pies that can be enjoyed in house or taken home.  Café Henkel also caters for dairy free, soy free, vegan and low FODMAP dietary requests and offers catering and celebration cakes for special occasions.
\n 
\n“My main goal was to create a menu that debunks the myth that all gluten free food is terrible so that partners, friends & family of people with coeliac disease can enjoy their meal too,” said Maria.  
\n 
\nEating out is one of the biggest challenges faced by people with coeliac disease. In a Coeliac Australia member survey, almost half reported falling ill with gluten related symptoms after dining out.
\n
\nCoeliac Australia president Michael Bell said: “Coeliac Australia has developed resources to help restaurants, cafés and caterers prepare meals that are free from gluten. We’re urging the hospitality industry to embrace our food service programs and help people with coeliac disease dine out with confidence.”

\nPeople with coeliac disease can’t eat gluten - a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and oats. Currently there is no cure for coeliac disease and the only medical treatment is to follow a strict gluten free diet for life.
