The Brushtail Possum has a pointed face and pink nose, with long oval ears and bushy black tail.It has grey fur with white patches behind the eyes and usually a cream coloured belly. It has a long prehensile tail which normally has a white tip over 25% of its length.

\n\nPossums are incredibly agile. They can climb vertical walls and have been known to jump from a tree to roof up to 4 metres away. They can pull off roof tiles and squeeze through the smallest of holes. A brown stain around any possible entry/exit point is a good indicator that the hole is being used.

As possums are natives to Australia there are regulations around the correct removal. Once caught in a specially designed possum trap, they must be released within 24 hours no more than 50m from where they were captured.

You may also help increase the risk of the possum coming back by triming overhanging branches or undertaking more extensive repairs to your roof.
