It is interesting that the increased pace of life means we often notice when we are calm rather than when we are stressed. Chronic stress for some has become the norm. The reality is a person can carry their stress anywhere, a bit like a suitcase. While short term stress has some uses it is the long term chronic stress that is unhealthy.

\n\nModern day stress is more akin to pressure (such as work and family issues) rather than stress related danger (such as dealing with a predator). Our bodies are more adept at coping with danger rather than with pressure. Our built in response to stress has not changed. It is the type of stress that has changed.
