\n\nThe aesthetic strategy of María José Arjona focuses on a rereading of the body, trying to make it a symptom, trace and sign. In her work, feminine identity and body awareness are always presented as the product of complex processes attributed to change. The docile body that the artist regulates, protects and assimilates, is at the same time a recalcitrant body, inscribed in space and time, in the socio-historical context, which claims and protests. An impersonal and almost "pre-individual" body, but at the same time social, from which the intrinsic public character derives in all its actions. By becoming an instrument and instead of recognition, the body of María José Arjona is transformed into an epistemological space and, therefore, it becomes accessible to the spectator. His body, the killing of the signs (Baudrillard), becomes a screen in which images of the self and the rest of the world are projected, in a moving empathy, sometimes uncomfortable, but always present in the investigation and the practice of this Colombian artist. The performance cycle "Vires exercises on power" was born with the desire to analyze power in its various forms. But what is power?

\n\nPhilosophy in the twentieth century has strived to give a comprehensive definition of a concept that has fuzzy limits and an irreducible polysemy. Michel Foucault developed the concept of biopower, power that builds bodies, desires and fundamental processes of life itself. Around this close relationship between power and the body, the concept of biopolitics emerges, territory in which the networks of power that manage the disciplines of the body move. A body that is inscribed in both global strategies (law and law) and local (relational) strategies. A body envestido by the discursive production that took it to the field of intervention, modification and doing. It is in this line of thought that the search for María José Arjona is inserted, that it uses power - whether political, cultural, social or economic - as a metaphor to carry out an internal reasoning about the codes of performance, exploring continuity and the difference, to investigate, ultimately, the inheritance, methods and perspectives.

"Vires exercises on power" is a long-lasting action in process, where the artist tests her physical and psychological limits, subjecting her own body to hard rules. A series of performances aimed at reaffirming the "heroic" gesture of the artist, suspended between desire and defense, authorization and prohibition, voyeurism and exhibitionism, the flows of sadistic and masochistic pleasure, the nihilistic fantasy and the drive liberating.
