font-size: 20px;\" class=\"font_7\"><span style=\"font-size:20px;\">Acupuncture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine and was developed thousands of years ago. It is based on the belief that ailments result from imbalances in the body. According to Chinese medicine, energy, or qi, flows through&nbsp;channels in the body, or meridians. These meridians are connected to the organs of the body. &nbsp;It is believed that when this energy flow is disrupted or energy is blocked, imbalances or disease result.</span></p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\" class=\"font_7\">&nbsp;</p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\" class=\"font_7\"><span style=\"font-size:20px;\">During the procedure, very small needles (about the size of a hair) are inserted into these pathways and points of energy. The acupuncturist manipulates this energy to influence how the energy and blood move through the body and mind. By doing so, the original causes of disease and ailments are brought back into balance, eliminating problems and restoring health.</span></p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\" class=\"font_7\">&nbsp;</p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\" class=\"font_7\"><span style=\"font-size:20px;\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><span class=\"color_35\">Does it hurt?</span></span></span></p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 20px;\" class=\"font_7\"><span style=\"font-size:20px;\">No. You may feel a sensation on insertion of the needle but it is not painful. Most are pleasantly surprised when they feel how different acupuncture needles are compared to the medical needles commonly used today. It is also often used as a preventative medicine. Many people see their acupuncturist 2-4 times a year for a “tune up” or “balancing” treatment.
