We offer young people the opportunity to use the media arts

\n\nFirst, we teach students how to create effective media messages.
\n\nSecond, we invite them to investigate the world around them. Third, we create opportunities for them to apply these new skills and abilities toward practical projects that foster dialogue and understanding.

At Gandhi Brigade Youth Media we do this work for the small, gradual differences we notice over time: the boost in confidence when a young adult speaks in front of a group; the knowledge and maturity it takes for a young adult to discuss the complexities of daily life; the respect and empathy with which a young adult treats his/her classmates. These are the outcomes that develop a young person to become tomorrow's leader.

I was first exposed to media production when I attended the communications magnet program at Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring. I find the art of digital storytelling to be empowering and inspiring, and I am thrilled to help create more opportunities through Gandhi Brigade for young people to create media and express themselves.

While I enjoy all aspects of the production process, my professional experience has been in post-production. I have worked as an assistant editor in the entertainment marketing industry and as an editor at a political consulting firm.
\n\n\n\n
In my free time, I enjoy watching documentaries and spending time outdoors.

\n\nGandhi Brigade Youth Media was founded by Richard Jaeggi in 2008 as a way to foster youth perspectives. The organization began holding workshops in the Christ Congregational Church in Silver Spring and eventually moved into City Place Mall, where members of the community, young and old, would participate in learning activities and events. Richard passed away in May 2014.

Originally from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and trained as a musician in the rich and diverse film, arts, and literary world in Charleston, I have lived in Maryland for more than 20 years. I am happy to engage local communities through their youth, and help them make a difference in our world through film, journalism, public speaking, and social media.
