\n\nWe take this opportunity to provide some basic information about the organisation and the role of the Board. Please have a read and please have a chat with current board members or executive staff before the AGM.
\n\n
\n\nCorrugated Iron is based in Darwin in the Northern Territory. Our rich program sees us working with young people, early career artists, creative professionals and community across the Top End in more than a dozen regional and remote communities. We venture further afield on a project basis including within the Territory, interstate and internationally.
\n\n
\n\nOur work spans from presentations and productions through to community engagement work designed to spark creativity in young people. Although we are known most for our drama and circus activity, we work across a wide range of artforms including dance, music, digital media, visual arts and production. We publish books and build playgrounds!
\n\n
\n\nPartnerships and collaborations are central to our work and our investment in young people extends from offering those first sparks of creativity to mentoring and training early career artists. We work with about 2,000 young people each year and our projects with them range from performing arts training that builds confidence and performances to cross generational projects creating artistic features about locally important stories and messages in public buildings.
\n\n
\n\nThe Board plays a crucial role in working toward the continued development of the organisation in a sustainable and measured way. The Board keeps its eye firmly focused on the big picture and the long term, whilst being able to participate in, and celebrate, the current achievements.
\n\n
\n\nThe Board meets on the third Monday of each month at Corrugated Iron’s office. Meetings start at 5:45pm and usually run for about 75 minutes; sometimes longer if there is essential business to get through. Each new Board can review the meeting day and time. The Board is a team of between six and ten including the Executive Producer [non-voting]. The Corrugated Iron Champions [young leaders] and the Staff have opportunities for regular interaction with the Board.
\n\n
\n\nIn terms of time commitment, we try not to take over your life! You will need to have time for:-
\n\nMonthly meetings - 75-90 min [ten over the year]
\n\tPreparation and reading for each meeting – 30 min
\n\tWorking groups or sub-committees – 10 hours over the year
\n\tVisioning Day – 6 hours
\n\tOther meetings such as AGM – 4 hours over the year
\n\tProfessional Learning – not obligatory but usually a few opportunities for this over the year
\n\tShows, events & activities – we love having board members attend events – 4 or 5 shows per year
\n\t\n\n
You must have, or be able to obtain, a Working With Children Clearance [Ochre Card]. It is a condition of working with Corrugated Iron that all employees, board members and volunteers have an Ochre Card.
\n\nThe Corrugated Iron Board seeks to include a range of specialist industry and business skills and experience along with individual qualities and overall diversity which all reflect good practice and support a high performing board.
\n\n
\n\nYou do not need to be an artist or have children involved with Corrugated Iron although these can be helpful attributes. You may be new to governance and boards and we are happy to welcome you aboard and support this development. Our program’s breadth requires a similarly broad spectrum of experience and perspective.
