In January 1980, Australian merchant banker, Frank Nugan, died in mysterious circumstances. In his car, the police found a ledger with the names of dozens of drug traffickers and the business card of William Colby, the former director of the CIA. Soon after, his New York-born business partner, Michael Hand, disappeared from Sydney and hasn’t been seen since.

In Merchants of Menace, author/filmmaker Peter Butt reinvestigates the notorious Nugan Hand bank and its alleged links to drug trafficking, gun-running and the CIA. In the process, he achieves what Interpol and the FBI failed to do: he uncovers Michael Hand’s long relationship with the CIA, from Laos to Angola and Central America during the Honduras-Nicaragua conflict. Peter Butt then uncovers Hand's new identity and traces the rogue banker to a small town in the United States.
