ACU is a signatory to the EAFU which means ACU supports Australia’s elite athletes to achieve academic excellence while also pursuing a sporting career. As one of Australia’s premier Water Polo clubs the ACU Cronulla Sharks will provide coaching and support in the preparation of the ACU Men’s and Women’s Water Polo teams entered annually in the Australian Intervarsity Competition (including the Australian Unigames) and build on the success of the 2016 Australian Unigames Gold Medal winning ACU Women’s Water Polo team.

Cronulla Sharks Water Polo Club Inc was formed in 1964 and is a community Club serving the southern suburbs of Sydney. Since the clubs inception, it has drawn its membership from an extensive metropolitan geographical footprint and matched this with leading coaching and officiating structures to produce successful club teams and to nurture talented members toward national, international and Olympic representation.

The ACU Women’s Water Polo team won Gold at the 2016 Australian University Games in Perth, defeating the University of Notre Dame 8-4.

In addition to the ongoing financial support provided to ACU Cronulla Sharks, the agreement provides access for eligible ACU student members of the club to the ACU Elite Athlete and Performer Program (EAPP). ACU National EAPP Officer Ceran Nilsen, says -

“While studying at ACU, elite athletes may require additional support to maintain sporting excellence while undertaking their studies. The Elite Athlete and Performer Program has been designed to support and encourage students to manage both areas of their life to ensure that elite student athletes and performers can achieve their goals.”
