New changes... An overview

\n\nFrom 9th October 2017, the Department of Transport will implement a number of changes to improve the Licencing system, including changes to the Learner Driver Training, to better prepare applicants for their PDA - resulting in safer drivers.
\n\n
\n\nThe changes are a result of reviews and consultation.
\n\n
\n\nThe order of the Learner Driver Training will be re-sequenced. All applicants now must complete the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) prior to sitting for their Practical Driving Assessment.
\n\n
\n\nApplicants must be 17 years of age or older and have completed 50 hours of supervised driving, including five (5) hours of supervised night-time driving, before being eligible to attempt the PDA.
\n\n
\n\nIn summary, there are 3 significant changes to the system:
\n\n1. The sequence of the PDA and the HPT.
\n\n2. A requirement to declare five (5) hours of supervised night-time driving.
\n\n3. For applicants aged 25 years of age or older, an exemption from the log-book requirement for
\n\na car (C-Class) vehicle licence. All other requirements will apply, including the six month
\n\nperiod between the issue of the learner's permit and attempting the HPT.
\n\n
\n\nHow will it be rolled out?
\n\n
\n\nTo prepare for the re-sequence, changes will be implemented incrementally.
\n\n
\n\nFrom Monday 26 June 2017
\n\n
\n\nAll existing Learner Drivers will be advised in writing of the new changes
\n\tFrom 26th June, new applicants will be provided with a new log-book incorporating the night time driving and new information on the changes. The cover of the book is yellow.

\n\nFrom Monday 9 October 2017
\n\n
\n\nExisting applicants will automatically transfer to the new process. If an applicant attempts a PDA on or after the 9 October, the new requirements will apply.
\n\tExisiting applicants can continue to use the pre-PDA or post-PDA section of the log book to record supervised driving hours. A 'Declaration of Supervised Night Time Driving' form must accompany the log book when attempting the PDA for applicants less than 25 years old. This must be signed by a supervising driver to confirm that the five-hour night driving requirement has been completed.
\n\tExisting learner's permit holders who complete the PDA, Logbook and HPT before 9 October will not be required to meet the new process requirements.
