Barry is an Australian patent and trademark attorney based on the Gold Coast and licensed to practice in Australia and New Zealand. He has been in the patent profession since 1990. During this time, he has developed extensive international experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications for individuals and multinationals.He enjoys working with inventors and start-up businesses in a variety of fields, focusing on mechanical and electrical engineering and software. He has delivered lectures at a number of local universities, in the fields of patents and their relevance to entrepreneurs. He has been involved in a number of mentoring groups on the Gold Coast and still gets excited by enthusiastic inventors and good products.

\n\nBarry is a CLE Board member of the Section of Intellectual Property Law of the American Bar Association (ABA). He has been a regular speaker at ABA conferences. He has covered topics including patent prosecution strategies in Australia and the protection of computer-related inventions in Australia.

\n\nBarry holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and started his career in South Africa working with a large number of innovators in mining technology. During this time, he was admitted as a South African attorney. Shortly after that, he became licenced as a South African patent attorney, before emigrating to Australia in 1999.

\n\nDuring his time in South Africa, Barry gained invaluable experience working with innovative mining support companies fighting for an edge in what was a highly competitive industry. This experience gave Barry a deep understanding of the importance of strategically filed patent applications, since litigation between these companies was commonplace.

\n\nBarry enjoys assisting clients with brand selection and protection. This is a very important aspect of launching a new product. Barry believes that improper brand selection can have disastrous consequences.
