Care Group - “Glorifying the Lord by your Life”

The Parish Care Team working with the Parish Office provides an important function in our Parish community. In addition to welcoming new parishioners and visitors, the team gives ongoing support to parishioners including in their time of need. The Parish Care team is responsible for undertaking the following:
\n\n\n\n
Welcoming Communication
\n\n➢ Co-ordination of Parish Information Packs, which are provided to new parishioners; and
\n\n➢ Provision of initial communication with new parishioners.
\n\n\n\n
Catering
\n\n➢ Organisation of quarterly morning tea for new parishioners;
\n\n➢ Provision of light refreshments at extraordinary events co-ordinated by the Parish Council and Parish Priest; and
\n\n➢ Organisation of morning tea after the twice-yearly Masses of Anointing of the Sick, if requested.
\n\n
\n\nTransport
\n\n➢ Provision of transport to and from Mass in emergency situations or in times of need; and
\n\n➢ Provision of transport to and from the twice yearly Anointing of the Sick Mass, if requested.
\n\n\n\n
Home Visits
\n\n➢ Provision of support to members of the parish community who are unwell, lonely or isolated.
\n\n\n\n

Catechists
\n\n\n\n
The role of a special religious education catechist is to provide support to teachers and / or teach the faith to children both by word and example. Spreading the Good News Gospel to children in our State Schools is a vital work of the parish. Our catechist support approximately 250 students attending four local State Primary schools located at Bowral, Colo Vale, Hill Top and Mittagong. The group is always looking for more volunteers to give their time to this important service. Please consider becoming a catechist or an assistant to one of our catechist.
\n\n
\n\nThe duration of each lesson is between 30 and 40 minutes. Lessons are undertaken at Bowral, Colo Vale and Hill Top on Tuesdays between 9am and 1pm. Lessons at Mittagong are conducted Thursday at 9am.
\n\n
\n\nPlease note that it is a prerequisite to:
\n\nundergo a Working with Children Police check (there is no charge for volunteers);
\n\tundertake a 2 day training program prior to entering a classroom situation;
\n\tfollow the curriculum provided; and
\n\tuse the training material and lesson plans provided.
\n\t

Meetings are held at St Thomas Aquinas Parish Hall, 10.30 am on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Disability Awareness Group

The aim of the group is to help the parish community to recognise the dignity of each person made in the image and likeness of God and to affirm the importance of welcoming everyone regardless of ability or disability, to all aspects of parish life and celebration.

St Therese of the Child Jesus Maubara Orphanage, East Timor
\n\n\n\n
Maubara is a coastal community in the District of Liquiçá in East Timor (Timor-Leste), 40 kilometers west of the capital Dili. In 1999 during East Timor’s struggle for independence from Indonesia, Maubara was the scene of a terrible massacre. Pro-Indonesian forces killed at least 200 people, most buildings were destroyed or badly damaged, and many children were left orphans. The parishioners of St Michael's and St Thomas Aquinas provide much needed financial support to the Carmelite Sisters who currently care for 40 orphans.
