BLACK POINT ECO ADVENTURE

\nVisit the basalt columns of Black Point. Formed over 135 Million years ago by a volcanic eruption which filled the Perth basin with basalt. As it cooled it forms the hexagonal columns you can see now.

\nVisit the Goblins - a local secret - this is where the Lord of the Rings SHOULD of been filmed...
\n
\nVisit Lake Jasper - the largest natural freshwater lake in Western Australia. Fed by the Yarragadee Aquifer, and dammed by the same basalt that forms the columns at Black Point, it has no streams running into or out of its banks.
\n
\nLooking for a day tour through the majestic D'Entrecasteaux National Park? This is the tour for you...Operating Summer and Autumn months.

\nThis full day off-road Adventure takes you past Pemberton's hidden treasures; visit Lake Jasper, the largest natural fresh water lake in Western Australia, Black Point and the home of the Goblins at Goblin Swamp before returning back to Pemberton in the evening. (Please note the Yeagarup Dunes are visited on our Beach & Forest Eco Adventure - and if this your first time travelling through we would recommend you join us on the half day tour).

\nReasonable fitness required as there is a 2km (return) walk to the columns from Black Point. (This walk is optional - there is a telescope available for those who wish to stay and watch!)

Detailed Itinerary

\n\n(For those of you that want to know EVERYTHING without the reality of doing it, we have written the story below - however we find it really hard to describe... so please read our trip advisor or facebook reviews - the people who write those are our actual clients and have written from the heart.)
\n\n
\n\nDepart Pemberton at 9am with pickup from local accommodation an option (depending on group size) before heading via Beedelup National Park through local farmland.The first stop is Goblin Swamp so dust off your camera lense.
\n\n
\n\nYou will experience a diversity of wildlife from Kangaroo's, snakes, emus and forest Red Tailed Black Cockatoo and other bird life unique to this pristine area. River valleys to towering Karri forest, down to the dense coastal forests, Graeme or Colin will reveal tales of Aboriginal history, early pioneering settlers and even show some of their early horse drawn trails in the security and comfort of our 4WD.
\n\n
\n\nOn entering the Goblins Swamp, we stop and give you time to grab some photos. These beautiful melaleucas are a national treasure, and their water source (the Yarragadee) is very contriversial.
\n\n
\n\nAfter the short stop we travel through the Donnelly River crossing on the way to our morning tea spot at Lake Jasper. Lake Jasper is the largest Natural freshwater lake in Western Australia and is another example of a perched lake - the basalt from the volcanic explosion some 136 million years ago forming a contaiment dam.
\n\n
\n\nThis lake is also directly fed from the Yarrigadee and relies on constant flow - there is a high proportion of Acid Sulphate soil near the shores of this lake so any reduced water in the lake could change the acidity of the water as these soils are exposed and oxidise.
\n\n
\n\nEnough of the bad stuff - this lake is a beautiful example of National Park management at its best. No longer available for powered motor boats, only hand powered motors are allowed on the lake now. There is a beautiful camp ground - and a picnic table which we use for the morning tea you will enjoy here.
\n\n
\n\nAfter your cup of tea or coffee, we travel further towards the coast, often popping into one of the beaches along the way. We are in the heart of the D'Entrecasteaux National Park here - so the tracks are mainly sand. Expect to see a few animals using the track as their road - it is easier than travelling through the bush.
\n\n
\n\nFinally arriving at the destination - Black Point! This offers you a chance to dust off that camera again - expect to find more hexagonals than a bee hive as they are everywhere. This area also has a huge cultural significance and we do acknowledge the custodians of the region - with aboriginal artifacts often seen on the tour.
\n\n
\n\nAfter a delicious lunch, weather permitting, we will head along the beach to the collumns. These basalt columns (as seen on the photos) are beautiful - however subject to huge swells off the southern ocean. Future tour dates have been based on arriving here at low tide.
\n\n\n\n
The endangered Hooded Plover and Fairy Tern nests can be seen in these areas. Data is collected during February on the tours in an effort to further understand these birds. Your help is greatly appreciated.
\n\n
\n\nThis is a full day out - and we do encourage our repeat customers to join us on this tour. If you have not yet joined us on the Beach & Forest Eco Adventure tour as yet then we would encourange you to do that one first - it gives you greater understanding of the region (and also is much less driving and fun for younger children then this tour.)
